Welcome to the LS6 teampage for The Mongol Rally 2006. LS6 are a 3-car convoy of 7 intrepid graduates who are searching for something beyond the ubiquitous post-uni backpacker's trail. This summer, we'll participate in 'the greatest adventure in the world' - The Mongol Rally.
The idea is simple enough: Drive 10,000 miles from London to Mongolia (a quarter of the worlds surface) and raise at least £3000 for charity. However, the Rally has only one rule: This ‘road-trip’ must be completed in cars with engines no bigger than 1000cc!
The rest is up to us.
In the spirit of the adventure, there's no support team and no prescribed route. GPS navigation systems are frowned upon by Rally organisers and Russian border guards alike. Our pants-wagons will traverse scorching 45C deserts and 5000m mountain passes. We'll pass through 19 countries, seeing some of the most remote and fascinating landscapes and cultures on earth. Roads en route range from German autobahns to pot-holed Kazakh dirt-tracks. We expect to reach Ulaan Baatar, the capital of Mongolia, in about 1 month, provided that we overcome small problems such as getting lost or our car snapping in half!
Prior to, and during the Rally, we will be raising money for three great charities doing great work around the world: Send a Cow, Christina Noble Children's Foundation and The Wildlife Conservation Research Unit. Also, the three cars will be donated to people in need in Mongolia at the end of the Rally.
Our team consists of 7 people: 5 Leeds graduates, a token Aussie and our camera man! Anticipating the people we will meet, and the looming disasters, we decided it had to be captured on film. Our footage will be edited and developed into a feature film for you all to see, and we are currently working on enabling a live streaming program so you can watch our progress in July.
Please take a few minutes to look around our site, using the links on the right hand side. If you are interested in sponsoring us, we are looking for corporate and personal donations. We'll gratefully accept money, spare parts or anything else that can be offered – every little bit counts! Please click for more details. We hope this adventure catches your imagination as it has caught ours.
Keep checking the site for updates and pictures from our preparation and later, from The Rally itself.
With love, Team LS6
